Litigation Director
Joanne Sawyer joined INTERIGHTS as Litigation Director in August 2010. She holds an LLB in English and French Law (University of Kent) and an LLM in Public International Law (King’s College, London). Joanne qualified as a barrister in England and Wales. Her prior positions include Assistant Legal Advisor to the UK Parliament’s Joint Committee on Human Rights, Senior Lecturer in Human Rights at Kingston University and Legal Officer at Liberty, where she pursued strategic case work before domestic courts as well as the European Court of Justice and the European Court of Human Rights. During 2004, she was a Pegasus Scholar at the European Court of Human Rights. She is a contributor to Simor, J. and Emmerson, B., Human Rights Practice and was formerly the managing editor of the European Human Rights Law Review.
