INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME

INTERIGHTS is committed to hosting a limited number of interns and visiting lawyers each year.

We run two types of internship:

1.      INTERIGHTS' Programme Funded Internship    criteria

2.      Self- funded Internship     criteria

Most commonly, we offer placements to self-funded interns ie those who are funded by an academic institution or who have secured their own funding by other means. Less commonly, we offer an internship that is funded by an INTERIGHTS programme. However, this latter kind of internship arises only intermittently and thus we advertise when we are seeking to recruit for this kind of position.

Please note, we do not accept speculative applications for INTERIGHTS' programme-funded internships.

For further information regarding selection criteria, please click on the links above. For information regarding accommodation and insurance, please click here. For information on Visa requirements, please visit the British Home Office website  http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/ .

For information regarding the kind of work an intern does and how to apply, please see below.

Internship activities

Relevant to all types of Internship

The exact nature of activities will depend on organisational and programme priorities at the time of the placement, however, it is likely that the main focus will include:

        Legal research on international and comparative human rights law and practice to support the preparation of briefs before domestic courts;

        Preparation of materials for legal training or INTERIGHTS publications, predominantly on the application and development of the right to non-discrimination, liberty and security of the person and freedom of expression and economic, social and cultural rights;

        Involvement in programme administration and development;

        Interns are encouraged to attend staff meetings at which current human rights developments and organisational policy are discussed. They may arrange meetings with human rights practitioners in the UK, or visit other international or national human right organisations based in London, and may attend human rights lectures in London or other universities, wherever possible.

Interns are assigned to work with a supervisor who is responsible for providing them with a description of duties and a work-plan. Upon completion of the internship, both the supervisor and the intern are required to complete an evaluation form.
