Regional Programmes

Our regional programmes operate in Africa, the Commonwealth, Central and Eastern Europe and South Asia, through which we provide technical advice and assistance to strengthen capacity and develop jurisprudence in each region. Programmes are developed in consultation with lawyers, judges, NGOs and others and generally combine casework, education and training, institutional development and provision of resources. Through them we aim to provide expert advice and assistance to those defending human rights through law, to strengthen capacity in the use of human rights law, to improve the functioning and use of existing mechanisms and to develop positive human rights case law in each region and internationally.

Thematic Programmes

Designed to improve legal protection of certain key rights worldwide through development of jurisprudence, strengthening relevant mechanisms and providing education and training. Those rights are to freedom of expression, liberty and security, equality and economic and social rights. In a special initiative, INTERIGHTS introduced a process to ensure that special attention is paid to gender related issues in all INTERIGHTS' programmes, and in late 2001, established the Equality Programme "to promote equality litigation and training to combat discrimination worldwide". In other areas, work is conducted primarily under the regional programmes.

Information Resources

On case law and developments in human rights law of practical use to lawyers, judges and human rights NGOs and others attempting to protect rights through law. One of the chief barriers to effective implementation of human rights is a lack of access to tools and resources needed by human rights advocates. INTERIGHTS aims to respond to this need through a quarterly Bulletin, which includes summaries of all international and regional decisions, a Commonwealth Human Rights Law Digest and Database, this Website and other occasional publications.
