INTERIGHTS has published a new online handbook on international and comparative discrimination law that offers a comprehensive introduction to equality and non-discrimination for the practitioner. Non-Discrimination in International Law: A Handbook for Practitioners integrates theories of equality and non-discrimination, the jurisprudence of international and domestic courts, and analyses of the discrete grounds of discrimination.
This Handbook is an invaluable aid to practitioners in identifying and categorising discrimination cases. Links within the document take you straight to the relevant international instruments and official documents on discrimination, and references are given to useful commentaries on a range of discrimination issues. Any terminology related to discrimination within the text is linked directly to a helpful glossary at the end of the book. Important cases are examined in-depth; a full table of cases cited will soon be available.
The Handbook will be updated annually to keep practitioners up to date with the latest developments in international and comparative discrimination law. It was produced with the generous support of The Sigrid Rausing Trust.

Chapter I introduces the key concepts underlying the idea of equality and the basic principles of international discrimination law. It also discusses the nature of State obligations under international law to prohibit discrimination and promote equality.
Chapter II provides an overview of the chief universal and regional international human rights instruments and briefly discusses their equality and non-discrimination provisions.
Chapter III discusses in detail the key legal standards in international equality protection, such as the prohibitions of direct discrimination.
Chapter IV looks at procedural and evidential issues involved in claiming discrimination, and also examines the possible remedies available to discrimination claimants.
Chapter V presents the approach of each international system to each of the most significant 'grounds' of discrimination. Those international instruments that deal directly with particular grounds are discussed in detail.
Chapter VI looks at some of the most important 'intersections' in international discrimination law and, in particular, at the impact certain other substantive rights and other themes in international human rights law may have on international discrimination law or discrimination claims.
